Artist Statement

Kylie Rusk is a New Zealand based artist residing in Muriwai, Auckland, whose work reflects a deep connection with the natural world. Growing up on a farm in the Far North, she developed an appreciation for the land that continues to influence her artistic practice today. Her passion for landscapes has continued throughout her career an is continually fueled by the ever-changing Muriwai skyline, which serves as a constant source of inspiration

Kylie completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a specialization in lithography, alongside a conjoint Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in geography. Driven by a deep appreciation for environmental planning, she pursued a Master of Town Planning Practice while working full-time.

For a decade, Kylie worked as a town planner in both public and private sectors while maintaining her artistic practice through solo and group exhibitions. Despite success in town planning, her heart always remained with the arts. After the birth of her second child, with strong support from her husband, she made a career change decision to focus on art full-time.

Today, Kylie’s lithographic prints and acrylic works capture the shifting hues, textures, and light of Aotearoa New Zealand’s diverse landscapes. Her art blends technical precision, expressive depth, and a deep love of the land to create pieces that evoke both intimacy and grandeur. Kylie offers commissions and sells original paintings, fine art prints, and lithographs through her website—each work created with the intention of sparking a sense of memory, connection, and belonging, both her own and that of the viewer.
