Description
Wanaka at Dusk captures the stillness and natural beauty of the iconic Wānaka Tree and its serene surroundings. Located near the southern shore of Lake Wānaka in Otago, this willow—known as That Wānaka Tree—unexpectedly took root over 70 years ago from a fence post, growing into one of New Zealand’s most photographed landmarks.
Painted in Kylie Rusk’s distinctive layered style, the work features soft blues, ochres, fresh whites, and browns that reflect the colours of dusk – these are built up through washes of acrylic and textured brushwork. Set against the pristine waters of Lake Wānaka and framed by the Southern Alps, this scene captures both the grandeur and intimacy of the moment.
